We selected plan 127, which is a two story, four bedroom, 2.5 bath home offering 2660 square feet of living space. All four bedrooms and two of the bathrooms are upstairs - as well as the laundry room and a large bonus room. The master bedroom has a large walk-in closet (around 8x10) and we've opted for (that is, Liz insisted on) the garden tub. Downstairs features the living room, formal dining room, large kitchen with a center island and a nook with ample space for a table and four chairs, and the family room - which has a fireplace and is open to the kitchen. Completing the downstairs is the two car garage and a half bath. There is also a foyer with hardwood floor adjacent to the stairway which overlooks the atrium by the front door. The house is situated on a 6430 square foot lot with a view of the coast range to the west.
Every Morissette employee with whom we've had contact has been extremely helpful. This includes Pete Whittle [(503) 590-0676], the associate broker who handled the negotiations. Pete made us feel at ease during what can be a stressful situation. He also pointed out ways we could save money by contracting for things like air conditioning ourselves rather than have the builder sub the work. Anissa Crane and Brent Landels were very helpful in outlining our options during the construction meeting and showed creativity in solving some of our requests. We would also like to thank Dwayne Veilleux and Kimberly Casey of the DMH Castle Hill office for always being prompt in answering our questions and taking care of our requests. And last, but not least, we want to acknowledge the contribution Jim Delmore made by keeping the project ahead of schedule and making certain the walk-through was uneventful. All of the DMH employees with whom we have had contact have been cheerful & friendly and have bent over backwards to make our home buying experience a pleasure from the moment we broke ground in December of 1996 until we closed at the beginning of April.
The final photographs of the project are now posted. These were taken just after our walkthrough. You can trace the construction from ground breaking through completion by selecting the page you wish to view from the scroll list at the top of this page and then activating the [See the Photographs!] button to the right of the scroll list. You can also read about our journey to becoming home owners in our Postcards from Portland.
May 4, 1997 update: The landscaping for the front yard will be going in this coming week. Landscaping the sides and rear and installing a sprinkler system will be done at a later date. I will be photographing the first phase of the beautification as well as taking more shots of the interior to show the window coverings and the furnishings. I'll post the results as soon as the images are back from Kodak.
