Subject: Postcard from Portland
Dear Family and Friends,
"Half our life is spent trying to find something to do with the time we
have rushed through life trying to save." -- Will Rogers
Somehow, Daylight Savings Time notwithstanding, Will's old homily does
not describe our lives. March's lion and lamb have arrived and left
quicker than greased lightning (just how does one grease lightning?).
And in this blink of an eye, the apple of our eye has aged another month
and covered a lot of ground along the way.
Elisha started March out with her very first trip to the mall. Liz began
her shopping schooling in style by first heading to Nordstrom and then
to Coach. But Elisha was more fascinated by the Imaginarium. We let her
soak up the sights and sounds until she had achieved sensory overload.
On the 11th, her four month birthday, she had her scheduled visit with
the pediatrician. She was not exactly enamored of the injections she
received for DTP/HIB, Polio and Haemophilus - but she recovered quickly
from the insult. Her weight gain has slowed a little - she tipped the
scales at 12 lbs. 14 oz. The tale of the tape was 24 in. - up two inches
since her two month checkup. These stats continue to place her at around
the 50th percentile, which is just fine.
On the 14th she treated us to her first unmistakable laugh. Her glee is
infectious and a constant source of joy to us. On the 23rd our little
dumpling added a topping to her junket - raspberries :-) She had been
hinting at them, but now they are quite decisive. She does them
responsively and it is now our lingua franca.
The 23rd was also the first time we've put her to bed in her crib. As
much as we've enjoyed having her next to our bed, she had clearly
outgrown her bassinet. The first night in her own room she slept through
the night, and this has finally become the rule rather than the
exception. She also managed to turn 180 degrees in her crib
(feet-to-head) - how, we don't know. She's done it several times since.
Elisha is not yet turning front-to-back or vice versa, but she's getting
close. We give her "tummy time" to encourage her in this endeavor, but
she's not particularly fond of it.
Gram Pris (Liz's mom) came for a visit on the 20th (my birthday). The
next day she treated Liz and me to a wonderful dinner at L'Auberge
(where I took Liz in February for a belated Valentine's feast). Joe and
Leah, our next door neighbors, took care of Elisha for us. They miss
their own grandchildren very much and welcomed the opportunity to enjoy
our little cupcake. Liz took a couple of days off from work while her
mom was in town and the three ladies had a grand time.
I've been extremely busy at work. We have a new systems release going
into QA on three different hardware platforms. We need to get it into
field test in June, so we're being asked to work overtime. I'll be glad
when the push is over.
On April first Liz found out that she's pregnant with twins[1].
This month we'll be heading to Florida for Passover. While we hope that
the logistics of traveling with an infant is not the nightmare we
anticipate, we do very much look forward to having our East Coast
relatives meet our little rosebud.
And speaking of flowers, our crocuses have bloomed and our tulips are
budding (one has blossomed). The irises should soon follow. The arrival
of spring is echoed in the Robin's song and charted in the cherry
blossoms which adorn the neighborhood.
Until next month, may your lives flower and your steps be filled with
spring.
we love and miss you all,
Sandy, Liz and Elisha
[1] You really didn't expect an April PfP with no tomfoolery, did you?
