The past two years Liz and I have had dinner down by the river and
stayed to watch the fireworks. This year we decided to pass. The show
generally doesn't start until 10pm since it stays light that late at
this latitude. That's *way* past Elisha's bedtime - and anymore, ours
too! In any case, it hasn't been much of a summer so far (see attached
weather summary). A bit more aridness and warmth would be a welcome
change about now.
Elisha is happily babbling away in the bedroom as I write this. She's
practicing her B's - a consonant she added to her repertoire just this
morning. The "awababa"s have been practically nonstop today. This may be
related to the fact that her fourth tooth is within microns of
surfacing. Elisha has made much progress this month. She's graduated
from simply grabbing her feet to toe sucking. Her floor exercises have
been augmented with airplanes - she extends both arms and lifts her legs
while on her stomach. On several occasions she has managed to get up on
her hands and knees without any help. She rocks back and forth for a few
seconds before collapsing - but we know crawling is just around the
corner. She's shown some early signs by scooting backwards a tad.
Elisha's appetite has increased markedly. She now gets two "squares" a
day (plus plenty of mother's milk). Breakfast typically consists of
oatmeal mixed with fruit (pears, applesauce, prunes or bananas). She ate
a whole jar of prunes yesterday. Big mistake! She had a bit of an
Independence Day detonation today ;-) Dinner includes a whole jar of
orange [1] or green [2] veggies (tonight she nearly finished TWO jars).
Miss Piggie is always quick to comment when we're not catering the chow
speedily enough to suit her.
On June 26th she responded to her name for the first time!! She's more
apt to acknowledge it when called from across the room. Elisha figures
there's no need if you already have her attention. And on the 28th she
said "da" for the first time :-) Of course, she was staring at the
ceiling at the time, but no matter!
Liz found and purchased a used Johnny-jump-up in pristine condition and
Elisha has been having an absolute ball in it.
Liz and I celebrated our 5 year "meetaversary" on June 24th. It amazes
us to realize that much time has passed since our chance encounter on a
Sierra Club conditioning hike (thanks again, Maryann!!).
This month we look forward to celebrating Liz's birthday on the 22nd. We
are also excited about our upcoming visit to Orange County the first
week of August - which will be the first opportunity to have many of you
meet "Little E".
we love and miss you all,
Sandy, Liz and Elisha

where everything is green, rolling stones gather moss,
