Subject: In Memoriam

Dear Family and Friends,

It is with the profoundest sorrow that I must bring you the news that
Liz's Dad has passed away. Bill's three year long fight against cancer
ended last Sunday morning. Liz's Mom had visited him in the hospice
center a few hours before. And, as you know, Liz had recently returned
from seeing him. Bill's sister, Mary, had also come in from Ohio for a
visit just before Liz flew down from Portland. It had become apparent in
the past two months that the treatments he had been receiving were no
longer effective in keeping the disease at bay. It was a struggle for
him and Priscilla to come and visit us in our new home at the end of
July. But Bill was never one to let any obstacles keep him from
completing anything he was determined to accomplish.

We are all extremely thankful that we had the opportunity to let him
know how very much we love him, and how much joy he brought into our
lives. Liz and I had hoped and prayed that he would get to bounce his
granddaughter on his knee. It's difficult to accept that she'll know
both of her grandfathers only through the stories we'll tell her. During
Liz's visit little "E" did honor him with a dance rehearsal - which he
was able to see as well as feel. We know his spirit lives on in the
hearts of his family and friends, and the miracle of life which Liz
carries. During Liz's visit he told her that he was not afraid of death,
and that he wanted her to live her life, raise a family and be happy.

We were surprised to see how quickly Bill's health faded in the last few
weeks, and we know it's a blessing that he had little discomfort. The
support Liz and Pris have been getting from their family and friends,
including Pris's neighbors, has been a tremendous help. Liz and I will be
flying down to California this weekend to join them all for the memorial
service.

with love,
Sandy & Liz

The words that a father speaks to his children in the privacy of home are
not heard by the world, but, as in whispering galleries, they are clearly
heard at the end, and by posterity. -- Ricther
